Angus (Gus) Barnes
Head Coach Flyers Swim Team
Angus has recently moved permanently with his young family to Mount Eliza following working as Head of Swimming in Jerudong International School. He previously had the position of Director and Head Coach at Barker College in NSW responsible for Swimming Coaching, the Learn-To-Swim program, Surf Lifesaving and Water Polo along with 34 staff. Before moving interstate to NSW Gus was Head Coach at Bayside Swimming Club where he managed 6 coaching staff, organised camps and interstate trips for Australian competitions and oversaw Mentone Grammar School swim program. Prior to that he was the Director and Head Coach of Firbank Aquastars Swim Club where he coached Emily Selig and Adam Nettlefold (Australian Youth Team) and Louise Justin Goldman and Stephanie Poynton (Australian Disability Team).
Angus holds a Silver Licence Swimming Coach (ASCTA) with Disability Extension and has an excellent record of achievement in coaching, some highlights of which include:
Angus has a strong personal background as a competitive swimmer having been a representative of NSW and a National Age swimmer for 6 years; he understands the needs and requirements of athletes from junior level through to elite competition. Gus is a strong communicator, experienced administrator and well respected in the swimming community in Victoria and around Australia. Not only has he been a Board Member of ASCTA Victoria but he has a Bachelor of Physical Education and is currently studying a Master of High Performance Sport at ACU.
Angus is suitably qualified and experienced to continue the vision of Flyers as the Premier High Performance home of swimming on the Peninsula. Additionally Gus is excited about the level of junior participation at Flyers and with making the Peninsula his home we can be assured of his personal investment in the long term development of the club and athletes.
