Age Nationals End of Week Report
Day 4 unfortunately brought about some illness to the team but thankfully all those swimmers except one had finished racing.

On day 4 there were some PBs during the heat sessions, but no Surrey Park individual finalists for the night.
However the last event of the evening saw the boys 17-18 4 x 200 metre freestyle relay represented by Sam Warrick, Tom Wood, Hamish McDougall and Lachlan McLeish all swimming under their entry time and finishing 12th overall.

Day 5:
Lachlan McLeish 5th 200 backstroke
Jemma Schlicht GOLD 100 butterfly
Tom Wood 7th 1500 freestyle
William He (11th) 1st emergency 50 freestyle. Unfortunately for Will he didn't manage to trip anyone up to get a swim in the final!

Day 6
Hamish McDougall 8th 200 butterfly
Sam Warrick 12th 200 butterfly 2nd emergency and once again Sam didn't manage to trip two people up to get a swim in the final
Lachlan McLeish 6th 100 metre freestyle

The last event for Surrey Park at Age Nationals 2014 was the boys 17-18 4 x 100 medley relay and saw the boys finishing a very respectable 11th.

With the swimming out of the way for the week it was time for a little fun. The team went for a late dinner to the Outback Steakhouse followed by more competitive fun at laser challenge!

A special mention must go to Emma Smithson who was to have her Age Nationals debut with an impressive 3 individual swims. Unfortunately Emma injured herself in the week of departure which necessitated her withdrawing from the trip. The team sadly missed her but know that she will be there bigger and stronger representing Surrey Park next year.

Special mentions also to those other first time qualifiers, William He, Alice Mason and Georgina Shugg. Probably the biggest meet that these guys have ever experienced and a great effort by all.

Sadly, there are three farewells from the Age Nationals scene. Next year Lachlan McLeish, Evan Tsirapidis and Sam Warrick will be "too old". Wishing them the best of luck for the future in Open competition!

I personally would also like to thank the swimmers for a great week! They were a great bunch of well mannered kids, a credit to the parents; and only the occasional "clean up your room" was required!

Thank you.

Raelene McLeish, Team Manager
