Local swim centres gets results!
On the weekend of 7 and 8 February, Flyers had their first serious hit-out for the year and produced some amazing results. More than 850 swimmers converged on MSAC (Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre) to contest the 2015 Victorian Sprint Swimming Championships including 32 swimmers from the Flyers Swim Team. The Flyers have training venues and squads in Mornington at the Mornington Swim Centre and in Frankston at PARC (Peninsula Aquatic Recreation Centre).
The Flyers swimmers made a splash at MSAC with an impressive 13 swimmers making the state finals, held the following day.
Daniel Cooke (12 years old), Jackson Lazzar (12), Logan Marshall (11) and Brayden Miles (11), were some of the junior athletes to place in the top ten within Victoria in their best events.
Hayden Cobbe (15), Tom Cook (18), Kurt Hendrickston (16), Madison Howe (14), Samantha Howe (16), Adam Howgate (17), Roman Nestoriwskyj (15), Corey Snyders (18), and Harry Waterfall (15) were the senior athletes from Flyers Swim Team to place within the top ten.
Sunday the 8th of February, brought the chance for each of these swimmers to dive back in and improve their rankings. Some highlights of the day included; Harry, Hayden and Roman all representing Flyers in the Men’s 15year old 50m backstroke placing 2nd, 5th and 9th respectively. Samantha swimming in all four strokes and placing 5th in her 50m backstroke and butterfly.
Two swimmers brought home a combined total of four medals from the 2015 Victorian Sprint Championships. Adam Howgate won the Men’s 17-18 year old 50m backstroke in an impressive time of 28.00 seconds and came third in the Men’s 17-18 year old 50m freestyle with a time of 24.72. Young gun Harry Waterfall placed 2nd in both the Men’s 15 year old 50m backstroke and freestyle.
