History

Kings Swim Club is a non-profit sporting club originally formed in 1983 by Phil King under the name “Mornington Aerobic Swimming Club” which ran out of Aerobic Health and Fitness Centre, Nepean Highway Mornington. The club was started to allow swimmers who were graduating from Phil’s learn-to-swim program to keep swimming and progress their skills. In 1992 Phil started up the Kingswim Learn to Swim Franchise and decided to change the squad name to Kings Mornington Swimming Club.

The three lane 15 metre pool at Mornington was not ideal for a squad based program so the club was forced to use pools at Toorak College and The Pines in order for squad members to gain experience in 25 metre and 50 metre pools, but these were outdoor pools and only suitable during the summer months. In 2003, thanks to the combined efforts of Phil and the Frankston High School Committee, an agreement was reached to build a six lane 25 metre pool in the school grounds and the club moved to Frankston High School.  In 2007, the club expanded to include Narre Warren to provide an avenue for the large number of graduates to continue their swimming.

After many years of bearing the name Kings Mornington Swimming Club it was decided in 2017 to change the name to Kings Swim Club, as we no longer have squads training out of Mornington.

In February 2021 we saw significant change in our overall operation of KSC.   These changes included moving to and embedding an awesome partnership with Splash's Dandenong and Berwick..

Kings Swim Club is proud of the success of all our Squad Members at every level and celebrate the success of our former Squad Members who have gone on to achieve incredible success on the international stage.

While members of the Kings Swim Club Ellie Cole and Tarryn McGaw both reached the IPC Swimming World Championships in Durban in 2006, followed by the World Cup in 2007 and in 2008 were selected for the Australian Paralympic Team. Ellie has since competed at many World events and was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 and 2016 Paralympics. The Frankston Swimming Pool is named in her honour. In 2012, former Kings Swim Club member Matson Lawson was selected to represent Australia at the London Olympic games. In 2014 he won a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in the 200M backstroke.  Most recently Bec Henderson, a past Kings Swim Club member and record holder, competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in the 20km race walk.
