Training Gear

Squad Members must bring the following items to every training session:

  • Goggles
  • Kick Board
  • Pull Buoy
  • Fins
  • Paddles
  • Towel
  • Water Bottles

Fins and paddles are not compulsory but are highly recommended especialy for Gold and Silver squads. They can be purchased online at Aqua ShopMost swimmers will be small or medium in size for paddles.

Where dryland training is included in the session, Squad Members must also bring the following:

  • Runners
  • Workout Clothes

Squad Members should always train in training bathers – not race suits. Training bathers need to be comfortable and are made of endurance fabric which is designed to last many times longer than normal bathers.

Technical or Performance Race Suits provide compression and are designed to aid performance. They are made of a variety of materials including lycra, polyester, elastane, polyamide and even carbon fibre.Race Suits are not lined and are extremely tight – for girls, this means not being able to pull the straps more than 4-5 cm above the shoulders. Race Suits are NOT to be worn by athletes 11 years and under (refer Swimming Victoria restrictions)

At swim meets, warm-ups are done in training bathers and the swimmer changes into a dry race suit to await their swim.

If you have any questions regarding the appropriate use of race suits, please speak with your Coach.
